Educational Mission
I offer tailored online tuition in Classical Greek and Latin and Classical Civilisation. Whether at beginner level, aiming to complete public exams or start university, or even just for pleasure, I support students in their journey exploration of these ancient languages, literatures and cultures.
With my experience as a school teacher of students aged 11 to 18, and as a board examiner, I support students through bespoke lessons that cater to individual learning styles and goals. Focus is always on working to achieve agreed goals - usually an exam! - but also incorporating and extending students' wider interests and scholarship in their chosen field.
Courses
Tailored Learning Paths
Generally, courses of study cover from beginners through UK GCSE exams to Advanced Levels and preparing for university entrance tests.
Beginners
An introduction to basic Greek or Latin language or culture focusing on adapted texts and common sources.
Intermediate Students
Greater exploration in the languages of grammar, vocabulary and extended texts or deeper study of extended sources including literature in translation as well as surviving art and architecture. Centred around OCR courses.
Advanced Level
UK A Level (OCR) or comparable preparation for university studies in Classical Greek, Latin and Classical Civilisation.
Literature Studies
Reading selections from set or key genres, authors and texts from Ancient Greece and Rome in order to develop students' sense of the languages and genres.
